Should I use 20mhz or 40mhz?

So, I have a Cisco DPC3825 wireless router. And recently switched from auto WIFI setup to manual, and noticed the option to use either the standard width channel (20mhz) or the wide width channel (40mhz). What is the difference?

    A 20MHz is a single channel.

A 40MHz is two 20MHz channels for more bandwidth.

If you aren't paying for rocket-powered Internet (100Mbps+) I'd leave it on 20MHz. Its too much system otherwise. You more than likely are NOT using the kind of bandwidth that a 40MHz would allow.

Not to mention, the N network on a 20MHz channel can push 300Mbps across 64 clients just fine.
