Should atheists be allowed in office?

Atheists are the reason our children are being taught the lie of evolution! We are a Christian nation, and our politicians should uphold the values of the nation. Should we reinstate the laws banning atheists from office? I'm worried God might bring wrath upon our beautiful country if we don't.

Update:

@The Bootyking: Many state laws banned atheists from office. There might have even been a federal law at some point.

First off, evolution is not a lie. Second, this country was founded under the principles of FREEDOM OF RELIGION. This means that people, whether Christain or not, should run for office. And thirdly, America is NOT a Christain nation. Just people most Americans are Christian does not mean we are a Christain nation. We are a federal republic, not a theocracy.

I respect your religion, but just because you hate atheists does not mean they should be banned running from office. God loves everybody, right?

I've met a lot of crazy people... but... none of them have been atheist... hmmm... I wonder who's corrupting me....

If you're so worried that God will bring wrath upon our country, how about you move to a different one so you can save yourself.

    Like Lincoln said

The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession.

    Yes...

...but in a perfect world, they wouldn't bother running anyway because no one in their right mind would allow a man who though himself the highest moral authority to rule over other people.

  • NO. No way. Our entire constitution is based on christian values and refers to God several times.

When you say "Jesus Saves" is that because he shops at Wal-Mart?
