Why does the teaching of evolution still go unchallenged in our public schools?

Is it because of liberal deceit? A great new campaign is asking the questions that show evolution to be nonsense and that it should not be taught to our children:

@Michael B: I'm not sure if you are a Christian or not. Cells are good and all, but who would have the gall to say we evolved from apes?

Because the first answer is not the best answer. Just because your thousand year old book says something doesn't mean it is automatically true. Do you believe that the world is flat and that the Sun revolves around Earth? Those were commonly believed theories in biblical times, but today we know for a fact that Earth is round and revolves around the Sun. Similarly, we have overwhelming evidence to support evolution. I'll answer that 15 question thing linked to on the page you linked to to demonstrate.

    1. There are several theories as to how this happened. Some people have determined that in the conditions of primordial Earth, electrical current running through the air would create amino acids. We do conveniently have a large amount of water that tends to get all bunched up in the atmosphere and create lightning, so that is a plausible theory. Some speculate that the first bacteria COULD have been from an external source - whether it was a bored alien or a meteorite with bacteria piggybacking on it.

    2. We are nothing but a bunch of self-replicating molecules. If you put a bunch of ions together, you can get any organic compound, depending on how you put them together. This has had plenty of time to happen. When they are put together, they are bound to work together in some ways.

3 & 4. This is the most obvious thing I can call BS on so far. Seriously. Mutations are the origin of the genes that benefit survival. Try inserting a random byte into an executable program on your computer - odds are, it won't work. But if you change the right bytes, things might be able to work better than before. It's luck.

    5. Again, it is all luck-based. We are extremely unlikely organisms. If this stuff happened every day, we'd have neighbors on Mars.

    6. Natural selection is the 'designer'. Actually, let me correct that: Luck is the designer, natural selection sorts out all the good designs from the bad ones.

    7. Most likely through symbiotic relationships with cells of the same species, and things went from there. You do realize that symbiosis plays a big role in your life, right? 9 out of 10 cells in your body are bacteria.

    8. Same way everything else did. Luck. And yes, it has advantages - it allows for hybridization of gene pools, meaning you can get the good traits from multiple evolutionary chains.

    9. Fossils aren't that common. When you die, your body releases self-destructive enzymes. Not everything is left after millions of years.

    10. Because sometimes, both designs work fine.

    11. Other species have been able to show self-awareness (what you refer to as 'intelligence'). I don't see bottle nose dolphins worshiping a deity.

    12. Because it is a theory. The difference is that we have mountains of evidence with few holes, and you have one piece of evidence filled with holes, loops, and contradictions.

    13. Evolution hardly applies to humans since we are a civilized species.

    14. Theoretical physics is considered a science too. Guess it's not though, eh?

    15. And you say creationism is not a religious belief? I also find it interesting how you make the quotes of one person and use them as definitive proof.

This does not disprove evolution. It points out things we don't know yet. While evolution has holes, creationism has one hell of a lot more.

School is for learning facts. Perhaps they can keep creationism in schools by reading it during fictional story time. It may be a good stimulant for imagination and creative (and sometimes, demented) writing.

If parents really want their children to learn about their religion they can simply teach it to them or send them to church/studies. If they believe they might as well since they're getting tax write offs for existing anyhow! Besides it's really hard to include religion as a class in school, there are way too many different kinds and they cannot simply favor one.

They just want company for Charles Darwin in Hell. Just in case the kids are not converted to gayness or some other form of perdition and some how escape the eternal fires that all their rest of there schooling and liberal indoctrination lead them into.

  • One only has to observe viruses to see that evolution is true. As a Christian, I shudder to think that anti-gay activist "Christians" are trying to destroy America by dumbing down our children and making us noncompetitive in the world. We were once a great nation, but the anti-science, anti-gay, anti-Islam, anti-women, pro-gun massacre crowd masquerading as Christians have drug our nation down the toilet.

Your additional details show your ignorance.

Humans and apes have a common ancestor, a recent common ancestor. Humans and other mammals also have common ancestors, but in the cases of most mammals, the ancestor is not so recent.

I am descended from my Grandpa Bodoni. So are my cousins. I did not "evolve" from my cousins, nor they from me. However, we all have a common ancestor, Grandpa Bodoni. Apes are more like our cousins than our ancestors.

Why would anyone get a degree from an unaccredited university. Like anyone will respect you for it, it's just a waste of time and money

One could say stronger: Why does the teaching of evolution still go unPUNISHED in our public schools?
