Ford F150 idle problem?
its my moms 2000 ford f150 with the 5.4 v8. the truck idles very strange. it almost feels as if it sputters. it will start right up in the mornings but sometimes it will die. even if its completely warmed up. its actually turned off on me while in traffic. it doesnt happen while i accelerate. it also makes a clicking noise. i dont know its its related to the problem or not. she ran the truck 3 years before doing an oil change
i forgot to add that the truck jerks when in reverse or drive without the throttle being opened. once you step on the pedal the truck runs fine. the clicking doesnt go away though

Well 3 years with no oil change is a good way to destroy an engine especially when it has a lot of miles. If it was low on oil during that time it may have damaged the engine for sure. That's on her for neglecting it and no offense but it serves her right. If you try and save $20 on an oil change a couple times a year then you pay a lot more out of your pocket in the long run.
The problem you describe could be a dirty IAC(idle air control) sensor, a bad TPS(throttle position sensor), dirty MAF(mass airflow) sensor, dirty TB(throttle body), bad DPFE(differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor, bad ignition coil pack, worn out spark plugs, dying fuel pump, or clogged fuel filter. It is probably throwing off an engine code so I would have it scanned to see. That will give you more of a clue as to what it is.
As for the clicking sound it could be a worn out valve train, small exhaust leak near an exhaust manifold, or some other issue. Take it to a mechanic or better yet the Ford dealer. You will be much less likely to get the misdiagnosed or ripped off there.

Clicking is from lack of oil maintenance. The lifters are playing. Taps idle its a Ford so its a vacuum. Problem. Or its your idle sender on the throttle body I'd check the vacuum. Lines. Even the plastic. Ones they crack and get loose

I dont have an answer for you. But i do have the exact same problem with my truck. Mine does it when its cold outside (below 40 deg) I have replaced the iac, tps, cleaned the maf sensor and the air temp sensor, replaced all suspect vacumn hoses and checked for more vacumn leaks with a propane bottle. If you find an answer to your problem email me at almost1957@yahoo.com i would like to solve my problem too
