I say you are the one who will be stuck maintaining what ever you do to your hair. It is up to YOU. Are you hapy with your current hair? Would you like a change? Do you want to get used to another hairstyle? These are questions I ask myself when I get others telling me how great I would look if I did such-and such. What good does it do to look great, if it feels like a chore, or simply doesnt feel right to you?

Good for you :) & grow your hair if you want to. Shoulder length hair is considered to be mid-length to short hair. I personally think it is long hair. A lot of people consider long hair to be down to their butt and to the floor, I'm telling you sometimes those beauty standards urk me because the average everyday person is not walking around with Rapunzel locks, and it's not always natural, even if it is, that person might just need a haircut. Some people wouldn't know what to do without their "precious long hair" and it's funny.
That's why most advice in the media and on the internet is consumed with people encouraging drag to the floor long hair because that's what most people consider the standard and sexy. What could be considered mid-length is actually now considered short, if you don't believe me just look at some of the hair questions on here. There's girls who will post questions saying something like "I have short hair, shoulder length or bra strap length, how to style it, etc". I remember when that was considered long. But people stretch the standards of beauty all the time. Shoulder length and beyond is long.
