What's wrong with my new air compressor?
Bought a new Husky 20 gal, 1.8 HP air compressor from Home Depot about 4 months ago. It gets used daily around my farm. Today the pressure will not get above 20 lbs? There are no leaks. I drain the tank weekly of any water build up. What could be the problem and how do I repair it?
It keeps running and never turns off. I've played with the adjustment knob, opening and closing it, still 20lbs. It holds at 20 lbs without dropping over a 24 hour period. So there is no leak. I replaced all fittings and line. I can't find the reciept either. So has anyone replaced the belt?
Its not the pressure switch and H.D. Will not exchange it. Does anyone really know?

What happens when it gets to 20lbs? Does it turn off or keep running? If it keeps running, then you absolutely have a leak.. however, the leak may be inside the compressor head itself.. or a bad check valve between the compressor and the tank.
If it shuts off at 20lbs then its the pressure switch. Probably bad.. the cheap one's are usually not adjustable.

Turn off or keep running is the absolute information we need to even start the diagnostic procedure.
