Anime where the characters care about each other, but not like...?

I've just finished rewatching Hikaru No Go (again) and I really would like another anime where there are deep relationships, great friendships and rivalries, and strong emotions. Something where the people seem to actually care about each other. Something with a warmth and affection that feels real.

But as a side effect of an actual plot, not something like Clannad or Kanon where the interpersonal drama takes center stage.

Something more emotionally mature and intellectual than the usual shonen fighting anime like Naruto or One Piece or Fairy Tail or DBZ, please.

Not interested in FMA. Seen some, it just doesn't grab me.

Some comedy is always good, too.

Other ones of this sort I liked were Fruits Basket, Fantastic Children, Pumpkin Scissors, Steins:Gate and Welcome to the NHK.
