Could new gun executive orders cause more mental health issues?

One of the new executive orders by President Obama would "Address legal barriers in health laws that bar some states from making available information about people who are prohibited from having guns." I understand this as a way to bypass the doctor - patient confidentiality.

Could this cause some people who need mental health care to not seek help because they would be ineligible to own a gun in the future?

    I agree.

This could rule out veterans of the police and armed forces from owning guns, as their records of PTSD or mental issues could be used against them.

It isn't bypassing doctor-patient confidentiality. It simply clarifies and unifies an exception that's already there. There's no doctor-patient confidentiality when somebody goes to the ER with a dog bite or a knife wound, either, and that's never been a big issue.

I'm sure it'll keep some people from seeking health care. I'm not so sure that will make a lot of societal difference. If it keeps some young people off SSRI's and SNRI's it may even do some good.

There are issues that need to be worked out. For instance, if there were a way for people with major depression to store their guns where they couldn't get at them until cleared, that might assuage some fears.

Stupid idea. First you could be sane, pass the test, get the gun, and then become insane but you still have the gun.

Americans just make excuses not to ban them.

Technically, they have been all presidential strikes, none have been govt Orders. 3 have been Presidential Memorandums. all of them are fairly wimpy and fully interior of his skill as chief of the administrative branch.
