What is the difference between DDS, and DMD?

What is the main difference between a medicine title, and a surgery title?

Update:

They are both dentists, Doctor of Dental Medicine, and Doctor of Dental Surgery.

If you want the history of why there are DDS and DMD degrees, here's a link:

One stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery and one is Latin for Dentariae Medicinae Doctor (Doctor of Dental Medicine.)

There isn't much of a difference except they are awarded either a DDS or DMD depending on which dental school they graduate from. Both means they are a dentist.

DDS and DMD are both dentists. Some dental schools confer DDS and others DMD. They're basically the same degree.

DDS is a doctor of dentistry and DMD is a medical doctor.
