can a dr just give out medical info about you to a family member with out your permission?

today my sister called my doctor and he gave her info about my visit that i didn't say he could. Isn't that against the law? can or should i sue?

Update:

i am over 18 .

I just live with her and pay rent

    Your are viable to sue him, this information, especially medical info is confidential and should never be given out unless your sister is your legal guardian.

    If you are 18+ he can't. Unless sister is legaly taking care of you. Else you can sue him.
