Do I qualify to claim the EIC?

I am single, have no children, and made 12K in 2012. I do live with my bf, would that have any impact? Do I qualify to claim for the Earned Income Credit?

There are options for claiming EITC for those without dependents. However, you must be age 25 or older at the end of 2012, earn below a specified amount, and have a filing status of Married Filing a Joint return. Based on the information you have given, I don't think you will qualify. To double check for yourself visit www.irs.gov

  • If you were between ages 25 and 64 on Dec 31, 2012, you may qualify for the no-dependent rate EIC. On $12k it would be $150. Living with your b/f does not have anything to do with the EIC.

You don't have to be married to get EIC. IF you made 12000, it's 12000-5950=6050-3700=2350. Looks like $182 in Earned Income Credit.
