Question about karma?

Im speaking only of atheist buddhist. This is assuming my idea of what karma is is correct so could be wrong but

Do bad get bad do nice get nice is that basically correct?

If thats correct what causes the bad or good to come because of its respective actions. What im thinking is if this is a result of some cosmic or external reality how does it recognize whats good whats bad without a mind if it has a mind how is it not a God

UNLESS of course u believe that its all based on a version of do unto others as... Which is more putting karma up to chance that the human will react in a similar way and not trade good for evil and vise versa. Which i think we have all experienced. Also what about those secret acts of good and evil do they not count if the human cant see it is from u. .

So im curious as to how karma works.

there are many conditions you have to consider. the aspects of an action is quite plenty.

yes, generally do good, get good and do bad, get bad. for example, you eat bad food and the result is predictable. and if you eat good food, you'll be fine. however, it doesn't explain about your genetic condition, how much you eat etc.

so when you do good now, you have to consider if you did good as well, and all you do should be good - not just a good thing done in different bad ways. yes, it depends on how you do it, when, why, and to whom.

Not everyone likes the same thing that is good. Some kids don't like vegetable although good for them. if you give them vegetable and they'll let you down.

so you got to think about your society as well.

a Buddhist monk practices all things such as the moral precepts, patience, etc. But he won't be accepted in all societies, no. Many non-Buddhist societies cannot see him doing good. Likewise social workers can get killed even.

    that's how kamma works.

Kamma is action (as cause) and effect is called vipaka. Cause and effect are just natural. Effect can be reaction as well.

Kamma is also volitional action. To be guilty, it must be intentional. For example, someone died in car accident - we don't call it suicide (or murder) because there is no intention to kill. Although no intention, or ill will, or intention to hurt, not involved, cause produces effect all the time. However, volitional action goes beyond effect but further effects. If that person died because he was hit intentionally, the murderer will have to face justice, and get other consequences.

Good people do good things should get good results but not always because it depends on when, where, why, how, to whom they did such good things. Also depends on whether they were also good previously or only good now. We don't know what we did.

Good intention alone is not enough. The path to hell is paved with good intention - so that's a saying. You think someone is doing good but it can be only perspective. Hitler was good to many as well.

So you have to know what actually is good. We call it conscience.

Bad things happen to good people to help them learn, grow, and become stronger.

If only good things happened to good people then life would stay the same, be boring.

I wouldn't read all the comic reality crapola into it. If you act like a schmuck be prepared to be treated as such. Live by the sword and you will die by the sword.
