What pet would fit me best?

I'm a student and I want to get a pet. I had taken my dog along with me in my new house but it turned out that I didn't have much free time during the day to give her all the care she required so she got back home with my mum. In the mornings 9-12 i have classes and then my dance classes in the afternoons. At nights i'm usually at home. I really want a pet to keep me company but I don't want it to be miserable. Any suggestions that may fit my lifestyle best? No fish please! :)

Update:

I don't want an insect either please...

$40 now-a-days isn't rather a lot to work with. If you happen to don't think you would love the three choices you recounted, than i would wait except I had slightly more money and also you might get something you loved. A pet is a significant accountability and a giant committment (I should understand, i have two!). And it's just right you appreciate what that you may and cannot have, now not many persons would say I can not have a cat or a dog when you consider that I shouldn't have the time and money (a lot much less animals would become in shelters if all of us would be so responsible). May I recommend getting a parakeet? To start out with, buy a tight sized cage so your new buddy has room to move round and purchase some interactive colourful toys (parakeets are incredibly vibrant and become bored without problems), you can also desire a cuttlebone and parakeet food (seeds or pellets, something the parakeet is used to). I should warn you although, the parakeet itself can be around $20. They are a great pet, in particular once hand-tamed. Smooth their cage as soon as per week, provide nutritious food akin to grapes and cranberrys, hard-boiled eggs. Plus if you will be long past so much, all you have got to do is go away a radio on for it is leisure.

A bunny rabbit. Defiantly. I have one and she is adorable! She stays in a cage that has a box under the cage to catch the poop and pee. Bunnies are low maintenance. You keep them in a cage with a water bottle, food, and a toy. You only have to put new water and new food once the bunny has ate it all. When you have free time, you can take the bunny out and play with it, we let it run around the house for excersice. They are really smart so if you let them out, they need supervision. I recommend getting a girl, they don't bite!

A nocturnal animal would be your best choice for now. Lizard, hamster, tarantula, rats and snakes(just kidding), sea monkeys, cat, and a imaginary pet giant lizard!

Edit: Trust me, the imaginary pet giant lizard seems like the best choice to me because it is the easiest to maintain! But if you insist go for the cat. They are nocturnal and fit your lifestyle best.

Not rabbits, they need attention and get bored easy. I was gunna say fish but you said no fish... I'd say frogs, snails, salamanders, lizards, guinea pigs, hamsters, maybe cats...

Defiantly a cat- you can leave your house for a few days and they don't mind. Also they can be very playful and love to sleep with their owners. I even taught my cat to play tag, so you can teach them games to play with you.
