How are British doctors paid by the National Health System?
I've been watching the "Doc Martin" series about a physician in a small Cornish village. I gather that people are free to consult him for any problem. No money changes hands; no insurance is involved.
So how are physicians paid -- per patient, by salary -- or what?
Are different specialties paid different amounts?
Any other information you can share about the day-to-day operations?

Taxes fund our healthcare system, the NHS. That's why we can get any medical attention absolutely free, well in essence we've already paid for it. If someone needs to see a doctor all they have to do is call or visit their local surgery and they'll be given an appointment. These kind of doctors are known as GP's (General Practitioner). Here's a link about doctor's pay http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore-by-career/doc... Scroll down to 'General Practitioner' section.
