John W; A man after my own heart!

I use my microwave, every night, to do oven chips (Yeah, I'm a slave to healthy eating) and I too have noticed the cloud of steam that billows out as I open the door.

What I *Hadn't* noticed, till last week, was the bloody water that the unreleased steam had turned to, after I'd shut the door straight after taking my chips out. All that cooled steam turns to water. And it's hidden beneath the turn table plate.

And, there, it boils, each time I cook my chips. And eats away at the inner coating of the oven. Causes it to turn brown and bubble up. That reveals metal to the 'waves .....

I'll be microwave shopping again soon. This time I'll know to religiously wipe beneath the plate / wheel with a J Cloth though.

Source(s): Bitter experience of a number of prematurely killed microwave ovens. I've sussed it now though.

It certainly doesn't hurt, except that I suppose some electricity is used up with the little light in there running. No mechanical / electrical things like staying wet, so I'd say yes, leave it open until it's dry.

If you keep it clean there is very litle needs as nothing in it can rott.plus every time you open, air swaps due to pressure being lowered next to the opened side...
