Is laughter a danger to christianity?

I was watching "The Name of the Rose" when I heard this:

William of Baskerville: My venerable brother, there are many books that speak of comedy. Why does this one fill you with such fear?

Jorge de Burgos: Because it's by Aristotle.

William of Baskerville: [Chasing after Jorge who runs with the Second Book of Poetics by Aristotle intending to destroy it] But what is so alarming about laughter?

Jorge de Burgos: Laughter kills fear, and without fear there can be no faith because without fear of the Devil, there is no more need of God.

William of Baskerville: But you will not eliminate laughter by eliminating that book.

Jorge de Burgos: No, to be sure, laughter will remain the common man's recreation. But what will happen if, because of this book, learned men were to pronounce it admissable to laugh at everything? Can we laugh at God? The world would relapse into chaos! Therefore, I seal that which was not to be said.

[he eats the poisoned pages of the book]

Jorge de Burgos: In the tomb I become.

[he tosses the book at the candle, which ignites a fire that destroys all the books in the abbey tower]

Do you agree or disagree with Jorge de Burgos? Is laughter dangerous?

    Laughter is a great weapon

    against a lot of things.

    Nothing can stand for long

    against the onslaught of laughter.

Nothing funny about book burning though,

of which Christianity has a long history..

“Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned.” --anon.

“How can we have confidence in the white people? When Jesus Christ came upon the earth, you killed him, the son of your own God, you nailed him up !! You thought he was dead, but you were mistaken. And only after you thought you killed him did you worship him, and start killing those who would not worship him. What kind of people is this for us to trust?”

You do not have to fear, or have faith in gravity. You can laugh at gravity all you want. That does not change the fact that gravity weighs you down always..unless you are in outer space.

No. i think that each and every person religions are in step with concern. once you utilize words like "eternal damnation", or "burn in hell" or "status judgment in the previous a deity", you're instilling a feeling of danger or of being in problem. permit's settle for it, no one needs to place themselves in any everlasting danger or in any problem, it extremely is why this type of administration has been this type of fulfillment over hundreds of years.

Is humanity also a great laughing matter, you? Are you laughable

for me, too? How about we all laugh at my lack of wits, as

    someone else says?

Or lack of brain? How do I ever manage?

Well, it's true that God really helps me, against a lot of

various devils, she, or it or combined.

I heard something about 'he who laughs last'? Did you hear

    that one?

Sometimes I find the joke amazing, like cosmic.
