Different engine to fit 2003 Astra with 2.2l engine.?
the 2003 2.2 has suffered cam chain failure, so is a write-off. I don't need performance, so what other smaller vauxhall (or other) engines would fit, using the existing gearbox? What ancillaries, from ECU to starter, can't I swap onto the new engine?

Get the head rebuilt, unless of course the reason for the cam chain failure was total abuse and neglect in which case the engine will be scrap anyway. By the time you've either found the right engine, or changed enough to get a different engine to work, it will cost about as much in time and money as rebuilding the current engine.

Hi david the astra range of engines was from 1.4 litre but the gearboxes where integral with the engine.
