Playing volleyball with a hurt wrist?

I think I might have sprained my wrist during vball. Can I play? I was also wondering if I should wrap it? I have practice tonight and a tournament tomorrow. I'm a setter! Thanks!!! :)

Update:

I don't think it is fractured... just sprained!

First Don't play volleyball until you feel 100% better, Talk to your mom and doctor about your wrist, Immediately use the RICE method.

Rest: Activity should be reduced, the injury should be splinted, and no weight should be applied to the injury.

Ice: Ice packs reduce pain and swelling and should be applied judiciously for 20-minute periods to avoid ice burn or frost bite. Packs should be removed for intervals of 40-60 minutes before being reapplied.

Compression: Compression should be applied lightly in the form of an elastic wrap so that it accommodates swelling. Anytime the wrap seems too tight or causes swelling below the wrap it should be loosened.

Elevation: Holding the injured part above the level of the heart is standard treatment to reduce swelling.

Please don't play any longer until it gets better. How hard that may seem, you didn't want to cause further injury.

I hope i helped and i hope you feel better :)

people should be ashamed at the answers they are giving you. If your feeling pain then your contacting the ball wrong!!!!!! End of story. if your wrist hurt when spiking, it's beacuase your wrist shouldn't be hitting the ball, you should use your hand. Make sure your hand stays big and hard, and focus on good contact over power. if your wrists are hurting when passing the ball then stop attacking it. If your arms are swinging into the ball then you have a problem. I am guessing that if your wrists are hurting then your passing is either going over the net, or away from your target. When the ball contacts your arm you should be slightly dropping your arms. (And I mean slightly) it's called excepting the ball. If you have a really hard spiker you might get stung once and a while, but once you start accepting the ball instead of attacking the ball your pain will go away in a hurry. Keep up fighting for your spot on the team, hopefully your coach has better answers for you than you have gotten here. Socks on the wrist, tape, ice, cold water, cutting of the fingers so the you wont notice the pain in the wrists are all awful responses. Just try accepting the ball instead of attacking it....

I play volleyball and my wrist use to hurt but i got over it! I don't even feel it anymore but if you have a practice tonight and a tournament tomorrow i agree that you should warp your wrist but you could of fractured it, if you think you fractured it you should see a doctor and not practice or play until it heels

I'm a setter and I have wrist problems. Just wrap it when you play and ice it after practice. If it hurts to bad to set or snap when hitting then maybe see a doctor and tell your coach

I think that you shouldn't play. It'll only get worst by playing, but if u still want to go tell your coach that your wrist hurts and ask them to tape it and to go easy on you. Of even go to the doctor to get an x-ray. Hope this helps

Of course you can play! On my team (I play for Club West) we've played with 114 fevers, broken wrists, all of it. Although, wrapping would be smart. If you're serious about volleyball, you'll go to the doctor, but you won't stop playing! (:

You should probably go to the doctor just to make sure its not fractured. Ask the doctor if you can play. you should probably wrap it until you see the doctor. Good luck :)
