How does the Yahoo Community compare to the Ask Community? Any former Ask people here?

I'm considering moving to an organization whose question community is of high reliability and am looking for a comparative analysis on accuracy and moderators executing no personal political bias in removing answers, and would appreciate a candid analysis of this site.

This is a user-moderated site. All users are moderators. Any user who sees a violation of the Community Guidelines should be responsible to report it. Some are and some aren't. All the users here are human, so mistakes happen. Questions or answers must be reported by at least two trusted users before they are deleted. A bot does the deleting. If you believe your question or answer was deleted unjustly, you have the chance to appeal. A real human (Yahoo paid staff) reviews it and makes a decision.

Many people feel their questions or answers were reported and removed because of content, when it was really the form of the question or answer which was the violation. Because many people don't bother to read the rules they agreed to follow when they signed up to use this site, they don't know where the violation was.

For example, they think their question (Who likes Justin Bieber?) was removed by people who don't like the person mentioned. In reality, one is not allowed to ask such things on this site; asking for personal preferences and opinions is not ok here. So, were the people who reported that question biased? No. Does the asker think the reporters are biased? Oh, definitely.

This is an information exchange site -- not a chat room or social contact site or discussion forum. The rules are fairly strict here, and are aimed at keeping this site to its intended purpose for use. Questions here must be seeking knowledge or advice of general interest to the community. Answers must attempt to answer the question.

Many things that would be fine on a social site or in a chat room are definitely not ok here, as this is an information exchange site. Because its aim is different, its rules are different. It's really not very wise to agree to something and then not find out what the something really is.

When we signed up to use this site, we all had to agree to follow the Community Guidelines here. Please read them. They are short and only take a real minute to read through. Then you'll see exactly what kind of site this is and isn't. The Guidelines are found under the ABOUT tab at the top of the page.

Once you've read them, there is even a short quiz you can take that can get you 20 extra points. http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines... It also lets you know if you have understood the Guidelines as well as you think you have. Violations cost 10 points each. Be sure you know how to avoid them.

I've been here awhile, and enjoy using this site. No site that allows humans is going to be perfect.
