Who actually has a "typical family?"?

I used to envy the typical family... My Dad sexually abused my older sister, left when I was 8, but didn't divorce my mom until I was grown. We had very little money and a runned down house. I was always afraid if my friends' dads. Then I learned I did live in a typical family... Okay maybe not the abuse part, but separated/divorced just the same.

I've been married.. Happily for 34 years and were involved in school, little league, soccer, gymnastics, the whole 9 yards. My kids tell me that WE are the odd ones..all of their friends' parents are divorced. So, you are typical, and we aren't.

Are things better? No, both of my kids were addicted to Meth, were in and out if jail for 10 years. Now they are almost 30 and have wasted 10 years of their lives. They are now clean but can't find decent jobs because they are felons and have ruined their credit. One had a baby and both parents were so messed up on drugs that we are raising that child... Scares the bejesus out of me!

So much for providing a typical home.... The typical home has problems..... They just differ from household to household.

My parents are still together we live in a nice house and there is yelling now and then but there are no beatings. I did used to get spanked though.

But we are not typical in that my sister is transgender (she used to be my brother).

Most people i know have 2 parents but some are divorced. I know a lot with a typical family because i live in the suburbs.

i have a typical family, two parents, married for 20+ years, 2 grandparents still living, married for 50+ years, me and my brother (although he died a few years ago in an accident). so by your definition, i guess my family is "typical"
