Mmmh. I actually prefer Yahoo! over gmail (I have and use both). It's just as clean, has better organization (lets you sort by name, content, etc. gmail only lets you see emails by date), has drag and drop folders, looks good, etc.
But if you want the best, you probably should look into a professional service. This will most likely require payment, and installation of some outlook-like program.

Generally Gmail is regarded as the best. It has a cleaner user interface and generally gives you less spam because Google is genius about sorting mail.

Microsoft recently recently replaced Hotmail with Outlook.com -- not to be confused with the program Outlook packed in MS Suite.
I've been using Yahoo Mail for 15 years, but I just left. My wife and I experienced numerous problems (slow response or no response) and my daughter got hacked recently. BTW, we're all using different computers.
One of the deciding factors in my leaving was Yahoo's lack of concern for user security as reported by TheNextWeb http://thenextweb.com/insider/2013/03/06/despite-i... They report that Yahoo has known about a rash of hacking of Yahoo Mail since January. I guess that wasn't important enough for Yahoo to email us and tell us this fact and what precautions we should take.
Before I switched to either Gmail or Outlook.com I read as much as I could get my hands on, including:
• http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=6...
And my choice was Outlook.com I've been very happy with it, very stable and no ads on messages from your Contacts!
