Lew Alcindor/ Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He's the second best player of all time in my opinon, and as you stated the one player ahead of him, Jordan, was the third pick, so in my view that makes him by default the best #1 pick of all time. The fact that he's the all time leader in points, 3rd all time in rebounds, and 3rd all time for blocks doesn't hurt either.

Shaq .
Shaquille oneal was big in the nba straight out of highschool
Averaged over 20 and 10 his rookie year and left the nba with 4 rings 3 times finals mvp a plethera of allstar votes , 30 point seasons and was one of the most dominant players in the nba . So I'd say shaq . Without his last few seasons he wouldve averaged like 27 and 11 ...
Magic johnson came out of michigan just as great but shaq was great because he was in a world of his own in the paint .

While I do agree that Hakeem is my favorite center of all time, I'll have to go with the 1979 draft of Earvin "Magic" Johnson. Best pg of all time. At 6'9" he had the skills of a guard with the size of a forward, which made him a tough match-up on both ends of the court.
