Which watch brands are costliest and how to judge?

I've written 5 editions of a book about that. I compare the brands on 96 lists, e.g.

1999 LIST 1. Gold Hours & Minutes Only Manual-Wind Round Dress Wristwatches

(After price, Y = 18kt. yellow gold, R = 18kt. rose gold & W = 18kt. white gold)

1. $11,000Y,$11,500R,$12,000W Breguet "Model 3290.11"- 100%, 100% & 100%

2. $10,800Y,R,$11,000W Patek Philippe "Calatrava 3520D"- 98.2%, 93.9% & 91.7%

3. $9900Y,$10,900W Vacheron Constantin "Patrimony"- 90.0% & 90.8%

4. $8900Y Piaget "Tradition Extra-Slim"- 80.9%

5. $8600Y,R, $9000W Blancpain "0028"- 78.2%, 74.8% & 75.0%

6. $7850Y Audemars Piguet "14539"- 71.4%

7. $7700Y,R Piaget "Tradition Grande Modele"- 70.0% & 67.0%

8. $7300Y,R Blancpain "2012"- 66.4% & 63.5%

9. $7100Y,$7250R Jaeger-LeCoultre "Master Ultra-Slim"- 64.5% & 63.0%

10a. $7000Y Blancpain "0021 Ultra-Slim"- 63.6%

10b. $7000Y Cartier "Ronde de Cartier"- 63.6%

11. $5500Y,R,$5995W IWC "Portofino 2010"- 50.0%, 43.5% & 50.0%

12a. $2950 Rolex "Cellini Biseau"- 26.8%

12b. $2950 Rolex "Cellini Classic"- 26.8%

13. $2250Y,$2300W Chopard "16/3154"- 20.5% & 19.2%

1999 LIST 96. Platinum Minute Repeater-Tourbillon-Perpetual Calendar-Chronograph Rattrapantes

1. $1,000,000 Blancpain "1735"- 100%

2. $375,000 IWC "Il Destriero Scafusia'- 37.5%

I think you can see why the costliest brands in the first three editions of my book were 1. Breguet (began 1775), 2. Patek Philippe (began 1839) and 3. Vacheron Constantin (began 1755). Some people wrongly believe Rolex is costliest, but my lists show that isn't true. Here, the costliest watches cost nearly four times as much as the Rolexes. By now, there are new brands that challenge the older ones as costliest. Can they beat them for Edition 5 of my book?

Update:

Venus 1485AD, Borders carried some of my books, but it folded. There are local stores that do, but I doubt that any are in your ara. I have websites, so e-mail me to learn more.

I have several nice watches, so I'll list them for you by price, like you do.

    1. $22,900Y Vacheron Constantin "1972" with 46 diamonds shows hours & minutes with quartz movement

    2. $20,800Y case & bracelet Patek Philippe "Twenty 4" with 82 diamonds shows hours and minutes with quartz movement

    3. $10,400 steel & R Omega "Seamaster Aqua Terra" with 44 diamonds shows hours, minutes, seconds & date with self-winding movement

    4. $9100R Cartier "La Dona" shows hours & minutes with quartz movement

    5. $9000W Piaget "Miss Protocole" with 30 diamonds shows hours & minutes with quartz movement

    6. $8795W Omega "Omegamania" with 41 diamonds shows hours & minutes with quartz movement

    7. $7025 steel & R case & bracelet Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Lady Datejust" shows hours, minutes, seconds & date with self-winding movement

In my experience, I find Vacheron Constantin to be the costliest watch brand with Patek Philippe second. Cartier, Piaget and Omega are next, and Rolex is cheapest of the watches I own. My list has some similarities to yours. Breguet watches are hard to find. I think Breguet makes maybe 5000 watches a year. That's only 10% or so as many watches as Patek Philippe makes. Rolex makes about a million watches a year, in contrast.

You mention new brands that challenge the older ones in price. I read some watch magazines. Parmigiani, Roger Dubuis, DeWitt and de Bethune are new compared to the brands that win on your list. By the way, where could I find your book?

I meet some girls at parties who own some fine watches. I have heard the brands Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Blancpain, Audemars Piguet, Cartier and Piaget mentioned at these parties. One girl said an actress owns a $153,000 Blancpain ladies' watch. I see you list a $1,000,000 Blancpain watch and three priced $8600, $7300 and $7000. I have not heard anyone mention Breguet watches, but Venus says they are rare. You mention new brands that challenge the older ones. I do not know so much about that, so I vote for the six brands I listed that I have heard mentioned at parties. Some people believe Rolex is one of the costliest brands, but other people say it is not so costly. Your list indicates that Breguet, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin watches cost practically four times as much as Rolex watches.

This watch was initially outlined by Breguet Marie Antoinette. Its self slowing down a moment repeater, bouncing hour, force store and a bimetallic thermometer. It took forty four years to be developed and Breguet and Marie Antoinette both kicked the bucket before it was finished. The first watch was vanished and they constructed the watch utilizing just picture of the first. Breguet gained a huge offer yet they reject it.
