Those are good answers. Some scientists consider humans on Mars an interesting discussion, but few are doing serious planning. True there is plenty of room left but our drinking water supply is endangered, our supply of oil will likely soon get lots more expensive. We are paving some of the best farm land, so Earth humans may exterminate themselves, before we establish self sustaining colonies on Mars or elsewhere off planet. The self sustaining part may take thousand years after we start colonizing, so we should probably make a serious start at colonizing in this century. Neil

It is man's nature to want to know what's over the next hill or across that next ocean.

Besides, at some point in time we will need to learn how to live off planet. Earth will not be able to support vast numbers of humans forever. Resources like water are already very short in some locales. Food is scarce in lots of places. As Earth's population grows, what is scarce now will grow even more scarce.

"when Earth is destroyed" - when is that supposted to happen? If its within the subsequent 100 years there is not going to be any Mars colony. Humans are not able to live to tell the tale Mars with current technological know-how (one of the crucial motives the moon is the first colonization experiment is to study and enhance the technology needed on Mars).

By later years the population growth is so big that we could out grow the earth. So it's sort of a backup plan if we do in a way...

    Hope I helped,

Advertising hype only, there are no REAL designs for a vehicle to get people to Mars and safely down.

There is no protective atmosphere or magnetic field. One way suicide trip.

Because sooner or later it will need to haapen. However a lot of research is going into making inhospitable regions habitable too.

Its always better to plan something as elaborate as this rather than just do it without

    regard of the consequences.

    Because Earth won't last forever.

More resources, less competition among humans, better life.

I don't recollect even one scientist making such a remark. Where did you come up with that idea?
