Algebra 2 - Probabilty Questions?

Just answer which ever one(s) you know:

1. "How many ways can you choose which 3 general ed classes to take if you must take one from each catagory and there are 5 social science classes, 3 fine arts, and 4 physical science classes?"

2. 7 sophmores and 3 juniors have applied to represent their class at a math competition. How many different 4-person teams made up of 3 sophmores and 2 juniors can the class nominate?

*PLEASE SHOW WORK FOR BOTH*

    1. There are 5 ways to choose a social science class, 3 for a fine arts, and 4 for physical science, so just multiply all that out: 5*3*4 = 60 ways

    2. I think that's a typo...Do you mean 5-person teams made up of 3 sophs and 2 juniors? I'll assume that for this problem.

    You can use 7C3 * 3C2 to solve it, where C is a combination (nCp = n! / (p! * (n-p)!)

    35*3 = 105 different teams

    1. C(5,1)*C(3,1)*C(4,1)

    =5*3*4= 60 ways

    2. C(7,3)*C(3,2)

    =35*3 = 105 ways
