Did you choose your religion ?

I'm wondering how many people are following a particular religion(i don't care what religion they are, don't start saying yours is best blah blah) because they were born and raised with it, and how many of you, at some point in your lives, decided that you wanted to choose your own religion, if any, based on what you thought defined you.

Update:

To Pamela: i like your answer, but , you said :

Faith doesn't sneak up on us. It is something we deliberately take hold of.

And we can change our minds if we want to.

And yes, we can change our minds, but guess what : for most of us, somewhere in the future there is a marriage, and there's children. And tell the mother in law, or the wife when she wants to baptize her child, or circumcize or whatever tradition that you changed your mind, see how well it goes ... or that you want your children to be able to choose for themselves ...

I was raised Baptist but studied or looked into many. But I love science and soon chose atheism .

Not a religion but a studied choice. Shackers are interesting and the whole zen thing is spiritually attractive. I kill to many cockroaches for the Tibetan thing. I like sex and the Hindus are a hot group.

I believe jesus was real and would of been fun to hang with... but that is about it.

I don't know of any major wars caused by atheism!

Best in your resolve. Mine is a disconcerting choice...

    Yours Rj

Eventually we all choose what to believe.

Some choose to stay. Some choose something different. Some choose nothing.

Our beliefs are like our attitude. It can be taught and even influenced but ultimately it is our responsibility and no one else's.

Our faith- like our attitude is a part of us- a choice that we own and are responsible for. Many may try to deflect responsibility for one or even both- 'they made me think that' or 'he was mean to me- its not my fault!'

This is a 'victim mentality' and takes no responsibility for it's own decisions.

Faith doesn't sneak up on us. It is something we deliberately take hold of.

And we can change our minds if we want to.

As you already pointed out mom and dad choose their child's religion. In most cases the same idiotic cult survives in a family for several centuries. It only ends when somebody actually grows up and accepts reality.

Yes, I did choose my religion, I don't really have a religion, I kind of believe in a little bit of everything. So officially I'm Christian, but I'm not hard-core religious or something.

Nope. I was raised in a Jewish household and grew up as such.
