How do I find out about asset protection for my home and investment accounts?

I want to protect my assets for my future security and I have been thinking about a Trust but I've heard that a Trust is not the same thing as having "Asset Protection". I'm hoping for financial advice and information of what direction I need to pursue. Thank You

    Not sure what or whom you're trying to protect yourself from - x-wife, vengeful former partner, the local scam artist??

    I just carry insurance.
