Someone asked me if this Commandment refers to lying about another person to make them look bad. I replied, "That, and lying period." Am I correct?

No you are not since if the lie is not against a neighbour it cannot relate to that!
So if your mom asks do you think I am pretty do you say no you are ugly? Telling the truth can be far worse than lying in many situations!

Wispy, I hate to disagree with you yet it is not fairly precise. What this Commandment means is which you're to no longer talk approximately your neighbor falsely, asserting advise issues or pointing out untruth information. you're mixing apples with oranges. i don't comprehend in case you ask this question on account which you're a Mormon, yet what Mormons have faith they suspect, basically like different faiths have their own own ideals, and no person might desire to talk a falsely approximately all and sundry, which looks to take place plenty in this class.

This command is in relation to legal proceedings. One's fellow man was entitled to the truth about himself in court.

Generally it would mean not to give false testimony against someone on trial, or it could also be taken to mean not to slander or tell lies in general, yes.

So why do Christians tell so many lies about atheists and followers of other denominations? Do they think it's okay if they're doing it to someone who doesn't worship the same way they do?
