Memphis has missed at least 25 shots from within 2 feet of the basket. What gives?

This is just a guess.

This is the 1st time being in this position. That can be mentally tough. Next year they will be better prepared if they make it this far. This happens a lot with young teams that aren't used to being in big games, playoffs, or championship. They get overwhelmed. You got to know that you belong there. This is routine for you.

When I coached young kids one of the things I taught them was about winning. I let them know not to get excited or carried away about winning a game. You are here because you are supposed to be here, You won because you are supposed to win. You been here before you are used to winning. I got plenty of compliments on how my teams conducted themselves. After the games were over no one was gloating. They would hand the ball to the ref, go to the bench, and line up ans shake their opponents hands saying good game. It didn't matter if we win by 20 or by 50. At 1st they didn't understand why they would turn off our side of the scoreboard or they stopped adding our points. But I had to explain it to them that is done so that we don't embarrass the other team. I would also run plays that were designed to hold the ball and kill the clock without scoring. Some guys didn't like that, but if we got into a close game those same players would ask to run those plays to win the game. They didn't know that you don't run it if you up by 3 to 5 points and 5 minutes left to play. You are bound to turn it over and give the other team a chance to catch up. But with 1 or 2 minutes to go you can run it. There was no shot clock you can go for the last shot to win or tie. Since we had done this in actual games we were prepared and we won a few games like that. We were fortunate not to have lost any like that. Teams that don't run those plays during the season don't do well running them in the actual game when it counts. The pressure gets to them. Like Memphis the pressure got to them.
