Re: Follow up question. . . to Richard C's question:?

Follow up to Richard's question re: the boat explosion this weekend. My question calls for an opinion: Do you think that boater will every buy or even ride on a boat again? Do you think if that happened to you, that you would?

Time will tell John. I am the son of a pilot and flew all over while growing up, even sitting in the cockpit of commercial planes before it all went down hill. I was as comfortable in a plane as I was walking. I was a first responder to both TWA Flight 800 and 9/11. It has taken a long time for me to get back on a plane and I still am wary of it. So time will help heal their fears.

I had a 50 year old Thom Jones of Windsor (UK) motor cruiser that I had restored. The engine was a Ford watermola, Sea Tiger, ie 1500 cc petrol. Not being an engineer I had a local firm in to overhaul the engine. 12 hours later it caught fire and had an explosion. I managed to get my wife and grandson of the boat as well as myself.

I have got a new boat, well built in 1937 and in need of restoration. The only stipulation from my wife is that I have diesel engines.

All things being equal, and to the extent I can speak without the actual experience - yes, I would.

Totally depends on if his wife was on it with him, if she was, then nope, not a chance in Hell he will get another boat.
