I thought libs were the compassionate ones, Why has Kathleen Sebelius decided to?

let this 10 year old girl die a horrible death when she has the authority to let her have the life saving transplant? She has 3 to 5 weeks to live. The Dr.s say the surgery would be successfully, do any of you libs care or is all that just a mask to use against others?

Update:

@Thomas...You're wrong, she has the power and was begged by congress to grant it, she denied. Heartless in my opinion.

Update 2:

@Max.....Well with 3 to 5 weeks to live I would say she needs it now don't you?

There are only so many lungs to go around and the most compassionate procedures is to get them to the patients for which there is the best chance for success. Someone has to win and someone has to lose. There is no easy answer.

  • 1. Generalize and speculate much.

    2. The rules for transplant eligibility are set by the medical facilities and Organ Transplant Network. Any changes to them have to be studied there are REASONS for the rules.

    3. There are 3 other children at the same hospital in the same situation, you cannot make an exception for 1.

    4. The exception they want to put her on the adult list which already has 1,600 people on it. Many of which in the same position.

    5. Pediatric lung transplant are already more dangerous and have more complications and less chance of working than adult lung transplants. And that is using the appropriate pediatric lung not an adult lung.

    6. Transplants are decided based on survivability chances of the patients. As cruel as it may sound it is a waste of an organ AND TAKING A CHANCE AT LIFE AWAY FROM SOMEONE ELSE to give an organ transplant to someone who the odds say won't make it anyway. It is not just she can live or not. Someone else who has a better chance of living DOESN'T get it. Don't you care about the 13 year old (since their development is enough to be on the adult list) who might not get the lung so it can go to her?

    7. Conservatives are disgusting for using and exploiting this little girl and her struggle to "earn" political points

So what will you say to the one of the forty other people waiting for a transplant? "Sorry. Children are more tearjerking so you'll just have to die."?

Besides which the doctors have stated that no eligible transplant is available. Then there is the fact that people with CF need not one but two lungs transplanted at the same time. You might want to educate yourself about the disease. http://www.cff.org/treatments/LungTransplantation/

You are an example of why we need smart people in government.

Everybody would like to have exceptions made for them, or haves the rules bent to please our emotional desires.

But, when the supply of lungs is very low, following the rules is far better than giving special favors to people who can garner the most public support.

It makes sense that an emotional and irrational idea has the support of Conservatives and vote seekers.

Let's have Obama's cabinet personally decide who gets life-saving transplants and who doesn't. What could possibly go wrong?

She hasn't, she is following policy set forth during the Bush administration.
