Other home schooling mom's?
I'm just wondering what some of the other home schooling mothers do to bring in any extra income. This upcoming school year will be my first year home schooling my two children. Right now I have a licensed home daycare that makes a decent income, but I've decided to quit at the end of this year. I work entirely way to many hours, and frankly I'm just burnt out. It terrifies me that my husband will be our only source of income, but I really want to just take the time to home school our children, go to fun outtings, and be a mom instead of always having to focus on my business.
I do plan on finding some side jobs to do to bring in some extra income, but I was hoping to get some ideas from other home schooling mom's. (or dad's)

My experience is that most people who work successfully out of the home have a skill or profession that is in demand. Almost all marketing and sales companies are scams, or if not scams, you make very little. I worked with a guy who was involved in health sales and marketing. It is really a pyramid scheme. It came tumbling down. Think of it this way: Why would a big company be interested in hiring someone, a mom or not, with little in the way of skills. I have a friend who does jewelry out of her home. However, she has to visit high end boutiques and stores to consign her merchandise. It isn't something you could do with young kids in tow. But it could work if you find someone to watch them once in a while. I also have a friend who is an advertising exec and another who does graphic arts. They are both home based. Relators can work from home and the hours you'd need to show homes would probably be hours your husband can help with child care. I know someone else who does online tutoring two hours a day. But it requires she be on the internet, without interruption for up to two hours. That would be difficult with small kids.
Think of what your skills are and try to make those into something that pays.

Start a self hosted blog. Post at least once a week. Include affiliate links (Amazon and ebay, skimlinks or viglinks, etc).
After your blog has been established a few months, apply for Google Adsense. Once you get approved, Put one block of ads on your site. Keep posting your weekly updates, recipes, homeschooling stories, or whatever interests you. Learn about keyword density, and use search terms actually searched for.
Build backlinks to your website. Some people choose to continually build backlinks to Yahoo Answers, but I think that's tacky, there are better ways. After about six months or so, you should start making several hundred a month. Keep posting weekly to your blog, and your income will continue to go up.
For some inspiration, go read Pat's blog. He made $66,000 last month. The guy is awesome! http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/

You may find that by quitting, you actually increase your family finances because you won't have the expenses related to your work such as clothes and transportation. Plus, there may be less stress. As long as your husband's income is sufficient to pay family expenses, don't worry about getting a job right away. Adjust to homeschooling and then see how you feel.
