Hi
Use a Linux distro
I run no antivirus and have caught no virus or malware.
Source(s): I work as a Linux educator and IT Tech, My day job. And I use Puppy Linux in the office with clients and at home, as its a mid range Linux with no restrictions therefore puppy is a great learning tool as well as an every day desktop. I have used Puppy since version 0.1 in June 2003 and professionally for the last 7 years. +1 to the guy saying "people just don't pay attention"; but you might have bought the machine like that // somebody else might have set it up for you, and you didn't make the mistake.

How do I get a refund?
plus
How did I get set up on auto-renewal anyhow?
and others..
I kinda like Norton.. but I do understand your frustration. Norton was growinig pretty fat and slow for a few years there.. but they have done a good job of coming back to the 'pack'.
No AV product is perfect. Free ones are nice, but there is no 800- support numbers you can depend on. I've used dozens of AV products in my work and learned about others in support and repair; I have never seen one I would call 'ideal'.
Try a free product, try Microsoft's free AV, or try other brands to compare. I also like Sophos AV.. maybe you can get a free trial to see if you like it, too.

You can demand your money back. I would tell them that they are going to give you the money back or you will take them to court and make them buy a new computer for even catching one virus.
You should either give Avast or Kaspersky a try. If you download the free trials, they will give you a buy option that will be cheaper. Norton for many years now has been letting viruses in. I had them on both of my new Toshiba Satelite's when I bought them, lets just put this way, they didn't stay long. I hated Norton for all the aggravation they caused me. They let my friends mother catch a Trojan. That thing ruined her computers hard drive, My friend had to replace the hard drive and reinstall windows.

Because people don't pay attention. There's usually a checkbox that says something like "Renew automatically" and it's already checked. People don't bother to read so they don't see that it's already checked. It's the same thing when people download software. They never bother to read and notice the "Install Yooboowonka search engine as my default" message either. The general public is VERY inattentive.
