How was your fishing over the weekend?
I had a great time catching gar, crappie, white bass, and carp. The largest was caught last night; a 35 lb carp on a crankbait using light 8lb tackle.
17 adult snakes?! That's pretty cool! Were they mostly garters? What do you plan to do with them?
I had not heard of carp hitting a crankbait either, but I was at the spillway from Carlyle lake to the Kaskaskia river in Carlyle, Illinois, and bighead carp were apparently sitting on the bottom gulping the big gizzard shad that got stunned in the current. I caught several of them on the crankbait, and saw others catching not only bighead carp on lures, but spoonbill (aka American Paddlefish) too. That was mindblowing.

Went out Saturday for a split day. That means I went half day in salt and half day in fresh.
Salt side: 22 snapper averaging 14 inches with the biggest being 18 inches. 2 barracudas ( 4-5 pounders) about 30 french grunts in the 1 pound range and sunburn all around. Went fishing with my kids.
Fresh side: 12 Peacock bass in the 2-5 pound range, 5 spotted tilapia in the 2 pound range, 3 bass in the 3 pound range and about 20 mayan cichlids in the 2 pound range. After that it was more sunburn all around except this time we got bit the heck up by mosquitoes and horse flies. Deet doesn't work out here, maybe back in the 50's it did but not anymore!
That was my Saturday, waiting for next Saturday to go hit the bridges in the keys. Looking to pick a fight with a Tarpon. ; ) ~Good luck catchin'.

Ha! Bet that was real fun. Probably took a while to.
My weekend? Hmmm...Well Friday I was home alone all day so I missed out. Saturday I hit the creek with a size 14 pheasant tail and got a few crappie, sunfish, bass, and 2 green sunfish which was cool cause they were my first ones ever. Sunday I think I hit my local creek again and did just about the same. This time though I captured 17 adult snakes. Latley Ive been looking to catch a unique colored garter. I saw one with blue eyes and blue scales. Nothing yet but got a few cool ones.
Today if Im not doing anything since I had a half day for finals Im gonna try and hit the creek or go to a pond. Not sure yet.
Source(s): Edit:Mostly Garters and I think a few hognose and one rattler. Even one cornsnake. Didnt get him just saw him on the other end of the creek. - ?Lv 48 years ago
I've never heard of a carp hitting a crankbait. I also didn't know there were bowfin and pike in the tuscarawas river.
I picked up 3 walleye in a couple hours on Saturday evening. 9#, 7#, and a 23" that I kept.
