Best cello to buy online? Budget?
I want to purchase my own cello (i finally decided to consider getting my own instead of using my school's). However, i am on a budget because cellos can run really expensive. I'm not going to use it for anything professional, just sort of one I can keep for myself. I don't want a really cheep one though. Any good websites that are trustworthy and quality?

Sharmusic or Southwest Strings are usually a good bet if you must purchase on line.

I support of dlashof's expertise - also call cello teachers in your area, or professional cellists who teach, and explain what you wish to do. They might have a student who wishes to get a really good cello - but must SELL their current student instrument first. They also might know of a cello that is available because someone quit studying and playing, etc. You need expert advice, before you make a serious mistake. Any money you invest in this sintruemtn, if it is DECENT, will come back to you when you sell it - perhaps minus a small amount for wear - and sometimes, even MORE that what you paid. A poor instrument =- potential kindling wood. GOOD FOR YOU for being so dedicated that you want your own instrument - but do this wisely, and ask the help of ALL adults and experts you can fin, personally - not just here.

You should really go to a store to try out instruments if you are within 3 hours of a violin shop. No two instruments of the same brand/model will sound the same so there is no way to know what the instrument is like until you get it, assuming it arrives in one piece which is always an issue with getting a cello shipped. If you absolutely must buy on line, get it from a specialty string dealer that also sells on line, below are some good options. Instruments under around $800 are really not worth purchasing as they are made with such inferior products that they just will fall apart, costing you more in the long run.

You can try this online store called music123 if you're not going for Amazon. Their price range is around $499-$1000+
