Do you have an employment contract? And are you being remunerated for the additional half hour?
If you have a contract what does it say about this? If not, your best bet is to go to the local Citizen's Advice Bureau - or find them online. They will know the law (or be able to find out) and will be able to help you take any necessary steps. They are an important service; use them!

Many of my employers have it laid out that they have to give you only 24 hours notice. Though laws may vary where you are.
