I had a gruesome dream. PLEASE INTERPRET **WARNING** reader's discretion advised?
Warning, this dream may be inappropriate for younger readers due to the graphic nature.
Ok, this is the dream I had last night:
I was home from work on my lunch break and eating at the dinner table. But, it was my old house that we moved out of 3 years ago, and it was my ex-step-father's cat. Next to the table was one of those high carpeted cat gyms that have a platform at the top level with the table. My mother and I were discussing the culture of the 70's and 80's when the cat started to freak out on the platform of the cat stand. I looked over and the cat was laying on her back, and staring at its 2 front paws as if very confused and scared; her eyes were fully dialated and her hair was on end. Her claws were as if a chihuahua had over grown nails, about a centimeter long, and blunt at the ends. She stared at her claws for a few seconds and then viciously started pawing at her face and shrieking as if she were fighting another cat. After a few seconds, she stopped and stared at her paws again. There was no damage to her face because of the bluntness of her nails. I figured she was having some sort of seizure, so i told my mom to roll her chair back so that the cat does not turn on her. After 4-5 cycles of starting and pawing, the cat rolled over onto her belly and looked up at me and meowed. Her face looked extremely sad and scared and the meow sounded as a desperate plea for help, but i had no idea what to do to help the poor cat. After staring at me for a few seconds, the cat sat up on its back legs, looked at its front paws, back at me one last time, and shoved its long, blunt claws into its eye sockets, and ripped its own skull in half and tore its body in half. From the lifeless body of the cat came two 2-3 month old kittens covered in blood and entrails from the first. Shaking themselves like a dog, they removed the gore that covered hem and slung it all over the room. When they were clean, they were both a bright white; the cleanest, brightest white I've ever seen. The first one started walking around in a small circle, as if disoriented and unbalanced, with a look on its face of pure confusion. Other than just coming out of another cat, it looked normal in construction. However, the second kitten had the same long nails as its predecessor and was sitting on its hind legs and pawing at its face and shrieking. Not knowing what to do, my mother yelled at me to kill them. Not having a weapon on hand, my only option was to break their necks. I grabbed the one pawing at its face and twisted and pulled. I did not properly gauge the force and its head came off in the process. At that point, a thick black fluid came out of the kitten and spilled on my hands. I then grabbed the other kitten and in likewise fashion, dispatched the kitten, but there was no black fluid. just blood. I then picked up all 3 lifeless bodies and threw them in the trash and put the bin outside. I knelt down to pray that God remove whatever evil was causing this, but as i put my hands up to pray, I felt something touch my lips. I looked down at my hands, and my fingernails were long and round like the overgrown nails of a chihuahua, and my face itched like crazy.
And then I woke up around 3 in the morning.
I do not usually remember my dreams, and this was by far the most vivid and gruesome dream I've ever had. If anyone could interpret it, I would be very appreciative.

Hi Edward,
This was, indeed, a very gruesome dream - and I'm sorry that you had it. However, according to my sources (The Dreamer's Dictionary, by Lady Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett), there's some bad news and some good news to this dream. Also, keep in mind that when dreams are this vivid, your subconscious is alerting you to something important.
The reason I mentioned 'bad' first is that dreaming of cats is typically considered to be an unfortunate omen indicating treachery and deceit among those you trust. But the 'good' news is that if you killed the cat(s), you will defeat the purpose of your detractors.
Another bad omen is blood (unless it was from a transfusion). In your case, it wasn't. Here is what the dictionary says about blood dreams: "Be prepared for a period of hard work against hostile forces if you saw blood in your dream."
Entrails is "a warning to slow down. Try to avoid any situations which cause you undue anxiety for the time being and get a medical checkup as soon as you can."
Regarding 'paws:' Animal paws in a dream signify a possible loss of status due to careless manners and/or questionable companions."
The color white is "a certain promise of success in all that concerns you;" but the color black is "an unfavorable omen - unless featured at a funeral or other appropriate situation."
Prayers portend "peace of mind and contentment with your lot in life."
Regarding fingernails: "Long fingernails signify difficulties with the opposite sex." 'Itch' indicates that "you are a worrywart and you could be your own best friend if you'd give up nourishing yourself on gloom and start emphasizing the positive."
Whew! Well, there you have it. Only you can interpret what this all means based on the definitions I've given you. I know that you've had this dream about three months ago - and I hope that you've been able to decipher most of it by now.

Very odd and wild! I've actually had dreams with a similar theme, one thing killing itself and breaks into two new things. I had a dream I watched myself being crushed into oblivion in a box made of leafs, and out from the nothing came two versions of myself- both very distinct from the other. But anyway...
I'm going to seriously doubt that I'll be able to accurately tell you want it means. Especially since I have no idea what the self-mutilation means of the cat- that is completely personal and you have to determine what that means for yourself. For me though, it's eyes dilated and looking at it's paws in confusion could mean some sort of drug reference possibly? That is the stereotype of what people do when they are on drugs, so that could be related. The self mutilation of the cats face... I will try to interpret and explain as I move on to the next few points of your dream that stuck out to me.
The fact your at your old house with an ex's cat might mean something about your past. You're probably thinking about the past or something nostalgic. This could mean nothing because the brain thinks of it easily since it's familiar, or it could be that there is something troubling you around the time that you lived there. The fact it's your ex's cat could also go along with my theory of the past, it's simply because your mind is set on a past time frame. Did that cat have any special meaning to you? This is something you will have to think about.
The fact the cat splits itself open and releases two new things that are similar to itself might mean that you have a choice or a path you must take that is unclear to you. It has possibly been a long time coming because they are born of an old memory, or they could be something new to you that has just sprung into your life. The two kittens represent those paths and your feelings on them. They are both white and perfect, but also alien to you, and scary, and threatening.
Your mother probably has little to do with the dream really, but she tells you to kill them. How did you feel when she asked you to do that? Were you hesitant, or were you ready to take action? This sounds to me like someone might be pushing you to choose one or the other path, this person could also even be yourself, pushing yourself to choose to ignore the decisions or take it upon yourself to contemplate both. The fact you had to break their necks, it sounds to me like both of these paths are not easy for you to take since there is no easy way around it. There also doesn't have to be just two direct paths you are thinking of, but two represent all your paths both good and bad and all scary.
You threw the kittens in the trash and prayed, this might be that you continue to ignore these paths and are looking to be forgiven or relieved from your responsibility to decide. You're looking for an answer.
The nails and mutilation of the cat would be a sign that you are punishing yourself for where you are now, sitting between many paths or moves you can make in your life. The fact you have now become the cat with the nails is a sign you feel nothing will improve and see a bleak end to your path.
Ultimately, if I have hit *any* where close to home on any of this, it's your brain telling you to forgive yourself of the past, and present as well. To come to a conclusion means progress, not horror.

You might be seeing what happened to some cats that used to live with the previous owners of your home. And perhaps these cats were abused and they died there
