Using a grill for first time?

I received a gas grill (Weber) as a gift and have never used one before. Can anyone offer tips on how to prepare it for use? The hardware store assembled it and attached a tank of gas to it. Do I need to do anything other than wash the cooking surface, turn the gas on and heat it up? I plan to do simple things with it at first - marinated steak or hamburgers - maybe some chicken breasts.

you got it right, maybe take a paper towel dipped in oil and oil your grates after scrubbing. remember these simple rules, if its thicker than your hand , closed grill, things like chicken breast burgers open grill.recipes, you got webber , steven raichelin from pbs, but for me the best is bbq.pitboys.com, video's that are easy to follow step by step. a closed grill is like an oven, open like a pan your stove! marinating adds flavor and moisture, so that your food doesn't dry out. using indirect heat meaning 1 burner off when your gift giver comes over. beer can chicken, simple and easy. can of beer (I use ginger ale) poor out 1/2 in the sink, put your chicken butt deep over the can to hold it upright as a stand, salt and pepper rub it with olive oil, 90 minutes should do it turning once. if it starts to burn loosely tent with foil. the chicken is done when the legs are loose when you grab them.i do everything on my grills, the only thing I make inside is ice cubes! webber has the best accessories, but your next grill doesn't have to be a webber, its the cook not the grill . for accessories you wont use much walmart is ok.
