if you want a gas saver go for a honda, a hybrid is bad if the battery dies out it costs about 5000$ to 700$ to have someone replace it so just get a small honda car you'll be dealing with less problems. trust me on this.

I love diesels but they are expensive these days and especially adding in the added cost of the urea fluid now required for clean diesel technology. The VW Tourag gets around 35 mpg on the highway with a V6 diesel and handles nice but price wise I hesitate to buy one. Something to consider is the Subaru Forester as it is a nice little SUV with good mileage ratings, high seating position and all wheel drive for inclement weather. Well built and one of the most reliable all wheel drive systems around.

Diesel or hybrid. Personally I'd go for the hybrid. Diesel now costs more than regular gas and it's definitely not as fuel efficient as a hybrid.
Hybrid technology has advanced significantly in the past decade. Ignore all the naysayers. For example the dealership where I purchased my hybrid told me they have only replaced two batteries in the entire history of their dealership. Sounds like they're lying right? My friend's friend works at another dealership selling the same make and they have had less than 10 in the history of their dealership too.
