Out of all the spots they could have the exercises, why do they have to do it on the Great Barrier Reef? Strange that the "biased, lefty" ABC was the only Australian news network to cover it.

Oh to have a job writing headlines, it seems like a lot of fun.
Anyway, they were bombing an island that is designated as a bomb site and has been used as such for a long time (we used to be able to hear the bombs when I was a kid living not that far away).
Anyway, because they couldn't drop the bombs that day on the island and landing with the bombs would be unsafe they decided to drop the bombs in the sea, to be recovered later. No real damage done.

Greg, of course people care, and TJ gave you the answer. All you have done is taken the caption and ran with it.
It was unintentional, and the reef was not at risk. I do not agree with a lot that the US does, but for Christ sake cut them some slack on this one, it could have been much worse.
The newspapers print stories to sell newspapers, or are you not aware of that?

It's not that we don't care, there is just no point getting our knickers in a knot over what has already been done. It is not as if the reef has not seen impacts before this. Ships have leaked millions of litres of oil on it, scraped their bottoms on it and the crown of thorns star fish have wreaked havoc on it. So this is minor. Lets just work the problem and let cooler heads prevail.

@ Sheila,it was well covered on most commercial TV news,Yahoo 7 and commercial radio. I read all about it in Yahoo 7s news online first up.
It was something that couldn't be avoided I believe as people were in boats in the planned drop area, the planes were low on fuel and had to jettison their load to spare what fuel they could.

Would you have them dropped on the idiots who were in the prohibited zone? As it is they aren't a threat to anyone & did no damage according to some experts. No doubt sections of the world media, particularly anti American, would beat it up to a major catastrophe.
