if i place a lot of small rocks around a plant, will the plant die?

what i mean is to cover the dirt all around the plant with small rocks, would it hurt the plant?? does the plant need to absorb air through the dirt?? meaning placing the rocks, the plant would die???

    The rocks themselves won't hurt the plant, but if you're talking about a plant growing in a pot, it will be harder to tell when it needs watering and you may wind up under or over watering the plant. In this way, it will harm the plant.

    The rocks would act as a mulch and help retain heat in cold weather and also stop the plant from drying out in hot weather by shielding the soil from the sun.Keep some space between the rocks so as to retain natural air flow.

    No it will not die. I have seen marbles and colored rocks around plants. Plants use their leaves to breathe.

    No it wont kill the plant as long as you are watering it you should have a healthy plant
