Hp Pavilion p6631p i want to know can i put any size power supply in my pc as long as it will fit?

because I was looking around and someone said u cant go to high on the wattage it could mess up your motherboard is that true? right now it has a ATX 250WATT POWER SUPPLY IM LOOKING TO PUT AT LEAST 850WATTS IN IT.. YALL THINK IT WILL BE OK?

    think of it like this Watt is more of a measurement of power load, rather than just power, Think of it as a river. Volts is the amount of water in the river bout amps is the force pushing the water. Your computer is only going to pull what it needs. Its not going to hurt anything and it will work but your wasting your money on a PS that big.

    I check your specs out and have a good chipset but still that 850 watt is a overkill for that motherboard and feel that it won't support it i would go no higher than a 650 watt psu and or a gtx 580 or a gtx 660 ti , also can upgrade to a amd phenomll x4 965 be if you want to a good processor for gaming
