How to keep wood filler from drying out?
I do woodworking and sometimes have to use wood filler to patch holes in my work. The wood filler comes in small cans that seal hermetically, but over time the material tends to dry out and I throw out more of it than I use. Is there something one can add to the can to keep the wood filler moist and pliable. I tried acetone, but it does not seem to do the job very well.

It depends on the solvent used. With some wood fillers, you can add a couple of drops of water to the container. Have you considered using something like "Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty". It is a powder so you can mix only what you need at any specific time.

i usually just cover the top of the paint or whatever with a plastic bag, smooth out all the air so only the bag is touching whatever i'm trying to protect, and if needed you can then put some water on top of the plastic bag, just enough to keep the plastic in place. the whole trick her is to see that NO AIR can get to the substance you're trying to protect. then put the lid back on. good luck to ya
