Creditors don't report late payments to the credit bureaus till the 30 day mark. This won't show on your credit report. Worse that will happen is you get hit with a late fee.
Instead of using the creditor's website to pay, use your bank's billpay. Most banks offer billpay at no charge. You can schedule all your bills, including recurring things like rent or car payments. You have control and can change or cancel a payment up to a couple days before the due date.
It's also better for you to "push" instead of the creditor "pulling" payments from your bank account.

it won't show up on your credit reports unless it's more than 30 days late.
call them after your payment clears and see if they will remove the late fee.
good luck with that since they are stingy.
next time pay the day you get the bill. does not make sense to wait. none.

By paying your bill on their web site, you can make a payment on the day it's due. But if you wait and the payment is posted after closing time, it will be a day late.

I pay all my credit card bills by money order.. if it's difficult to pay on their website just get a money order and mail it when the bill comes in.
