There are a lot of good brands out there to choose from. Which one to buy depends a lot on how much you want to spend. The top brands IMO are Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic. I'm not a big fan of anything made by LG because nothing I've ever had from LG lasts very long. LG used to be Goldstar which made a lot of cheap, crappy products and had a horrible reputation so they changed their name but that's about all they did in my opinion. The next tier would be Hitachi, Sharp, JVC, Toshiba and others. I would stick to the top brands if I were you.
My advice would be decide what size and how much you want to spend, find the televisions from the top brands that meet your criteria and compare them.
