Are my parents cheap or just really like to budget?
I am 15 years old... And a girl. My parents like to shop at flea markets every weekend and that's where we get most of our clothes. Girls my age tend to like "brand name" clothing while I am stuck with off brands from the flea market. They won't spend $10 on a top for me and my mom thinks $15 is too much for a pair of jeans. We are a middle class family and its not too bad for us, just I would like to shop at a mall once in a while. The only reason why my dad goes to the mall is to buy power tools to add to his extensive collection. I have 4 other siblings and my parents haven't gotten me a new top in over a year. The fake Nike shoes I got from the flea market are over 3 years old and have holes. My classmates always look at me weird because of the way I dress. Once, a boy found out we shop at flea markets and bullied my along with others. I felt so bad and upset. I don't know what to do. Should I ask my parents to go to the mall? Are they cheap?

You don't know their financial situation and with 5 kids to support that can get pretty expensive. Instead of the flea market or mall see if they would be willing to go to a consignment store. you can get some pretty nice stuff there brands names and some still even have the tags on them. It will be a little more expensive but not by that much. You do realize when you go to the mall you are paying top dollar because their rent is really high. There are always other stores where you can shop without all the over head. Mix, match and come up with your own unique style. Who knows, you may start a new trend, Madonna did in her old days and no matter how she dressed everyone wanted to be like her. And she was off the chain back than!

My suggestion is for you to get an after school job, say, babysitting, mowing grass or anything to give "YOU" some extra money and then you can go to the mall and buy yourself something special. This will help you feel better, appreciate what your parents do for you and help you feel better with classmates, but understand having brand names isn't everything, try to save some of the money you make and in the process you'll learn a valuable lesson.

My parents are both bankers (so extremely rich) and they wouldn't even buy me a laptop until I was 17. Plus I've had the same phone since 2009. THAT'S what I call cheap and stingy.
