Is it likely/possible that I will still grow a significant amount?

I'm 17, male, white (Russian, English, German) pretty active (I do a lot of weight training) and only 5'8". I'm really insecure about my height (I know I'm not that short but still) and I feel like I won't even grow to be average. As a youngling (isn't that an awesome word?) I was always a little taller than most of my friends but by high school, I was the shortest. My mom is only 5' tall and the women on her side are all short but the men are kind of tall/above average. My dad's a bit above average and I believe his side if the family is for the most part. Is it likely that I'll hit a growth spurt or something, or will I be stuck at chin height for most other guys?

For the record, I have been working out since I was hardly a teenager but there is no evidence whatsoever (in fact, some against) to suggest that weight training inhibits growth. It is just a myth.

To say that "Typical human males don't stop growing until they're between 21 and 25" is utter rubbish. MOST human males have already FINISHED growth at 20 and only a few go on to 21 and only VERY FEW - NOT MOST - go on for a short while after those ages - and that's usually only because of a medical problem.

Bearing that in mind, you still have - in theory at least - about 3-4 years of growth still left to do - and we KNOW that weight training doesn't inhibit growth - what it DOES however do is slightly damage joints before they have properly formed so standby for some arthritis in years to come - and btw, growth spurts DON'T exist so you won't be "hitting" one of those.

It seems like you got a medium between the heights of your mom's side and your dad's side. But typical human males don't stop growing until they're between 21 and 25, so you've got a while yet.

a significant amount? no, not at 17. at that age you've grown more or less as tall as you're going to. maybe another inch at most
