can my employer force me to change positions because of the amount they are paying me?

If an office worker is paid $18 and has been for 3 years can the employer force them to take a different position by telling them that they are overpaid in their current position?

Your employer can't "force" you to take a different job. There is no slave labor in the US.

Your employer can tell you, you are going to be doing a different job. There doesn't have to be a reason or a valid reason for you to do the new job. You either do it or you find a new job.

Nothing illegal here. It would also be legal to just cut your pay to as low as minimum wage, or to fire you. Sounds like they're giving you a good option.
