What kind of exercised are good to become more flexible?

I am not doing it for dancing but I figured you guys would know the best but I am trying to become a kicker on the football team and my legs are really strong however I can never get enough power because I can't stretch my leg back far enough. Any ideas on how to improve my flexibility?

    Sit in a straddle (both legs out to the side) and reach to one side and try to grab your foot. Hold it for a little while. Then do the same for the other side. Or sit on the ground with your legs straight out in front of you & reach to try to touch your toes. You could probably google hamstring stretches & find something there?
