This is a great inconvenience to me because I just don't like change.

Go to Tools > Extensions > Uninstall any useless plug-ins installed into chrome.
If that doesn't solve the problem, then uninstall chrome manually
-http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=...
Then install again.
